There comes a time..

... in every woman's life where I guess you truly have to accept that whilst you still might feel like a 16 year old inside ... outside you're definitely not seeing the body of a 16 year old, in fact you've been wondering for awhile now who the funny chubby lady is following you ... you keep catching glimpses of her in shop windows just behind you ... and we all know where this is going don't we? It's the sudden frightening realisation that the chubby middle aged lady following you is actually YOU!!! If that's not scary enough, ... To cheer yourself up and hopefully improve the outward appearance somewhat, you splurge slightly on that cute skirt and top you've had your eye on for awhile, and the first time you are out strutting your stuff you spot an ooooooold lady (and I mean she was ancient, with sticks and probably a dodgy pacemaker judging by her painfully slow passage past me ... and I mean right past my tippy toes ... That close!)  ... and what was she wearing? You got it ... my super-duper flash new outfit! And to rub salt in the wound she looked Gooood in it too!!!;) So I've got dumpy women following me, oldies wearing my clothes and rocking the look better than me, surely it can't get any worse ... I just need the "Are you Pregnant?" question next and I'll be ready to drown myself in the toilet bowl ... (Fortunately I've only had that sorry experience once ... it was about 6 months after having birthed Angel Mim, my Father-in-Law rather facetiously asked if I was pregnant again? ..to which I rather smoothly replied "No, I'm just FAT"!! ... the look on his face was priceless and that sweet memory always makes me smile ... and snigger just a little bit evilly too..hehehe. .. He's never really been overly chatty with me since then! hahaha) Luckily it wasn't the pregnancy question but it was a little bit of a snide  comment (incidentally from an old ex of the hubster's ....Hhhmmmm you're feeling it aren't you!!) asking whether  I found that increased sugar intake increased my hot flushes ... I may have been a tad indignant with my reply when I said "I don't know what's a hot flush feel like?" ... touche! Unforgivably I was a little bit smug and over-pleased with my super-fast riposte {there is history here, I felt justified! ;)} And my payback no doubt is the sure probability that  I'm very likely to be struck down by the hot flushes soon enough ... but not yet thank you very much! :) I wish I could say that that was my 3 strikes, and I'm out... But I got a 4th! .. that's not fair is it!?
Sooooo number 4 ... the Angels were out at the Park and I was scurrying around collecting prescriptions, posting letters, shopping,  just the usual, when I get to the check out at the supermarket, my greatest fear becomes apparent, I can't pay! I can't find my purse ...Ooooh the shame and embarrassment,  I literally had the whole contents emptied out of my handbag, desperately searching thru' half chewed straws, dribbly cloths, used snotty tissues ...the whole sad kit and caboodle ..hehehe... but no purse and no bank card with which to pay for my shopping :( Fortunately the lady on the till at some point in her life must have had the very same experience as she kindly bagged my shopping and saved it for me whilst I ran home to find my purse. After an hour of turning my recently tided house upside down I still couldn't find my purse, to add to my worries was the realisation that today was payday and all off Hubby's hard earned pennies would be in our account (I hadn't had time to spend them all yet ..hehehe) So with a heavy heart I rang Hubby at work to confess my loss and let him know I was about to cancel my cards so could he meet me at the supermarket to pay for the shopping .... The Hubster advised me to have one final search, making sure I replayed all my movements since I could last remember having my purse to see if it triggered anything and if it still didn't turn up then to ring the bank. So I dutifully followed his advice ... I remembered having my purse when we went to the cinema with the Angels the afternoon before, on the way home we called at KFC and had chicken and mini ice cream tubs to takeaway ... when we got home I put the ice-cream tubs into the freezer so they didn't melt whilst we ate the chicken ....you can see where this is going can't you? Retracing my steps I looked in the freezer ... Ooops there are the ice creams that we forgot to eat ... but I'd even left them in the cardboard tray in my haste to eat warm chicken ... best remove the cardboard tray before it gets soggy ... and hey presto there's my purse in the freezer under the ice-creams ...certifiably crackers!!!  Fortunately even frozen bank cards are acceptable at supermarket card machines ... so all is well  and the only worrying thing is my dumpy body with old lady fashion sense  and the  memory loss ... not bad for the first week of the School Summer holidays! :))

A teensy bit of sewing has been had  in between the rapidly advancing ageing process ...
A woolly kit by Threads that Bind, called Sweet Sampler. I've had this kit for years and it was finally time to make a start and actually sew her up, a teensy bit more to do before it is finished, a few bees and flowers and berries on the tree and its done! :)

I needed some woolly distraction whilst I was waiting for some threads to arrive for the Wedding Sampler...
I ran out of the 'olive' Weeks Dye Works thread for the hill and also the 'cornhusk' for the vine leaves, I'm hoping the forced break will give me a renewed enthusiasm to put my shoulder to the wheel and finish it in time for Abi and Nathan's anniversary at the end of August :)

A naughty win on Ebay brought this pretty little bear home...
I loved her old vintage appeal and especially her dainty lace crocheted collar and I don't think you can see it in the photo but she also has a teensy little earring too ...tooo cute to turn away! :)

Temptation also came in the form of magazines and a new book...
I actually do try to be very good with magazines, I really only ever buy Primitive Quilts and Projects and Simply Vintage, both are 1/4ly's so  kind of excuse myself because they are not monthlies ... hehehe.   The book is by Maggie Bonanomi "Thistle Down Moon" and I just LOVE it ...soooo glad I gave in to the temptation Julia! ;)  (Julia at Bilberry Grove blog very thoughtfully shared some delicious projects she'd made from the book which were just too much for me, it was a case of covet at first sight!) I just need some quite time to sit an peruse and drool a lot ... next week when the Angels are out playing :)

Talking of Angels, time to chase them up to bed and hopefully to the land of nod and sweet dreams for them and for me ... I'm hoping mine aren't nightmares of dumpy old ladies forgetting things ..hahaha :)

Hugs Wendy x x

P.S.   Just a very quick confession ... remember those forgotten KFC mini  ice-cream tubs in the freezer ??? I ate 3 of them!!! Would have had the 4th too if hubby hadn't caught me!! ...maybe that's why the dumpy woman is still following me!? hehehe :) x x

Bump Day...

..Jacob has been on His Church Mission in Spain for 6 months as of the 20 July  ...for some reason, which I don't know why, its apparently referred to as Bump Day! :) I would like to say that this first 6 months has flown by and they have in a weird kind of way but at the same time it feels like forever since I gave my boy a hug and received a 'get-off Mum' grimace for my efforts..hahaha (actually that's not true ...only in public did I get told off, Jake is actually quite hug-able and would often curl up next to me for a cuddle) I miss his calming presence, his wicked sense of fun, his towering over me to remind me how much smaller than him I am now, I even miss his nagging to play Mario Kart with him on the Wii ...when we both knew I needed a 2 lap lead on the 3 lap race and he could still beat me! hahaha. I miss my boy, but each week as I read his Emails and sometimes get to Email-chat back to him, I can see how much he is loving his adventure in Spain  and enjoying what he is doing ...how could I wish him away from that? 18 months to go and I'll be able to catch up on my hugs! :)

To celebrate Jake's 'Bump Day'  its only right that I send him another embarrassing parcel ...so I got out my paint brushes, sticky glue and coloured paper  and came up with ....
Missionary-Minions :) hahaha   I'm pretty certain his eyes are going to roll when he opens this package... I just happened to have two smallish boxes to make a short and taller minion...which is quite apt for Jake at the moment...despite almost being 6 foot tall himself his companion at the moment is a whopping 6 foot 5 and a chunky wrestler to boot, so where Jake with his first companion looked quite tall with Elder Priest he looks small ...hahaha ...not sure he'll really appreciate the small minion ;) but I didn't write names on the name badges  so he can choose for himself which Minionary he wants to be :) ...hehehe

Pinterest does have a lot to answer for...these are definitely not all my ideas...just copied hehehe
little cake rolls (I think they are called 'Twinkies') dressed to look like Minonaries

And I filled each box with lots of silly Minion bits and bots (only because with the 'Minion'film out at the cinema there is lots of Minion paraphernalia in the supermarkets :)
All wrapped and sent off to Sunny Spain ... hoping they don't melt in the heat ;)
I'm fully aware that I spend silly money on making parcels for my boy and posting them out, silly hours decorating boxes to embarrass him ...What can I say ??  It helps me focus on 'doing' instead of moping :) I'm already planning my next parcel ...a box of sunshine...then there's Autumn and Halloween and Christmas ...lots more to plan ...Oooh he's going to be soooo happy, maybe even as excited as me ! ...Naahh, probably not!  hehehe :)

My Angels have finished school for the Summer today. They are both tired and ready for a break from the hustle of early mornings... each day its been harder and harder to wake them up ..hahaha You just watch, tomorrow when we can snooze and have a lie-in they'll be up at the crack of dawn raring to go! Today I ran around like a chicken without its head trying to get lots of little jobs finished before the girls got home...  changing light bulbs, clearing cupboards, I even managed to get my hair cut so I don't have to worry over the next 6 weeks or so :) I did contemplate cleaning the oven but when I opened the door and actually looked inside I thought better of it and just shut the door really quickly ;) ...hehehe  We have a full summer planned, we've struck lucky with our respite hours and have several days each week that the girls will hopefully be out and about with their carers... gives me a little bit of time to rest and hopefully keep on top of the housework. We just have to hope Mr Sun remembers that it is Summer and comes out to play lots! (I even bought sand for the sandpit today too...how's that for forward planning! hehehe)    For now its time to go to bed and keep my fingers crossed for a lazy sleep-in in the morning :) ... I should be so lucky! ;)

Graduation Day...

Three years ago we were finishing A level exams with Abigael and anxiously awaiting results to see if we'd be offered a place at University....fast forward thru' 3 years  of excitement, trepidation, laughter, tears, goodbyes, yet more exams and even a wedding and this last week Hubby and I were privileged to celebrate Abigael's Graduation from Lancaster University :)  We are sooo very proud of her achievement's and dedication to complete and obtain her "Bachelor Of Science" Degree in Biology. Its been tough at times for her but she has shown strength and tenacity in hanging in there :) I'm now going to indulge in an overly prolific and very proud overload of photos of our wonderful day!

We all loved the cap and gown... although for the rental hire price Abi had to pay,  I personally would have liked the gown suitably ironed!!! (Indignant Mother  was told to sshhhh at this point ...hehehe) And I'm still not allowed to show 'frontal' pictures...haha

Technically, this is not a frontal shot... its definitely side on ..hehehe

Lancaster was bright and sunny for a change but still a tad breezy so there was a lot of straightening of that wiggly tassel

Graduating students walking the 'Academic Procession' into the Great Hall ...
Ooops  a sneaky one ;) Its not my fault she looked across just as I snapped a photo

Seated and checking out the programme...

This is the Chancellor of Lancaster University, he came across as very pleasant and like-able...
although I did wonder just how many times he's given the same opening comments and said the same jokes...judging by the 'Honorary Graduand' and  staff seated behind him ...a fair few times ..hehehe

Throughout the ceremony there was a man seated at the far back of the stage playing music on his organ...he was very good  and very very enthusiastic!...
...being the silly school girl I am, it  did cause me to giggle quite a bit ...very quietly naturally, not wanting to cause any embarrassment at such a prestigious event ... The organist reminded me of James Last and Klaus Wunderlich, organists my Dad used to listen to when I was very little ... I was almost disappointed that he and his organ didn't rise up out of the floor whilst he was playing !!  ;)

Hubby , Nathan and I were seated up on the balcony, which at first I was a little bit disappointed with, but we did have a good view of everything happening ...
even if it was everyone's backs! Fortunately they also had huge screens so we could see fronts too ;)

I had to be super quick snapping Abigael  been called out and congratulated...

they kept that line of students moving super fast :)

A very Blurry photo of Abi returning to her seat after the 'hand-shake' :)
 {I'm allowed to use this 'frontal' photo because its blurry! ...hahaha}

Three years and lifelong friendships have been made with some special girls ....
Also, whilst  I'd like to admit to being the Femme Fatal in the red dress, sadly  its not me...hehehe ... although we could be twins! ;) hahaha

And finally my favourite photo of the day...
University is said to broaden your horizons and develop and improve the intellect and encourages you to develop knowledge, confidence and Independence. Despite all that academia, I'm glad to report my daughter is still a silly goose ...one who decided that  the gowns hood made her look like she was ready to apparate like Harry Potter at Hogwarts! My goose is the one holding her cap and mobile!

Whats next? Well Abi has successfully gained employment as a Teaching Assistant  at a local school starting in September, this will hopefully give her the  'total hours teaching experience' needed to decide on whether she goes back to University and completes her Masters  and or whether she goes on to Teacher Training or stays at home and bakes cakes all day long! ;)  Her top priority at present though is to relax, chill and enjoy Summer  ... and to start  baking! :)

From a very Proud Mum...

July is flying by...

...and I'm barely keeping up! :) Next week the Angels start their school summer holidays and I am soooooo not prepared ..not that there's anything unusual in that ...hehehe We have had a couple of busy school weeks, assemblies, sports day, parents afternoon and my personal favourite: school dinner day (parents are invited to join their children in a traditional school dinner ... who could resist burnt sausages and lumpy mash potatoes served with an ice-cream scoop  and sticky toffee pudding ...Aaahh the memories ...except, our lunch this year due to the hot weather was limp lettuce and brown curled carrot shavings, with a suspiciously dodgy looking slice of ham and 1/2  a boiled egg , pudding wasn't any better, runny jelly pots and a rich tea biscuit ...hahaha nothing changes, school dinners are reassuringly as bad as ever!) Busy but fun summer days, so maybe its not all down to bad time management on my behalf .. :)

Not too much sewing happening here either, I'm still plugging away on the Wedding Sampler for Abi and Nathan, time is ticking ... all to soon it will be August and their 1st Anniversary!
I have one side of the border completed and have started on the bottom border but it is sloooooow going :(   I am determined not to start another cross stitch project until I have it finished ... but its sooo hard because I'm very easily distracted :)

About the only bit of non-cross-stitch sewing that I have finished is some woolly strawberries ...
I decided I needed to fill my old tray with a splash of summer and woolly strawberries are just perfect! And easy-peasy to make too :) The also make good flying missiles when certain young Angels feel the need to throw something ...they don't hurt as much as a giant threading bead smacked into the back of your head either ... hahaha

I finally managed to to motivate myself during the hot weather put all the Easter and Spring Bunnies away and get my Summer Annie's and Dolls out ...

My favourite area is always the dresser...
I love these teensy little prairie dolls ...
These  dollies are old favourites too...
I had a little bit of help putting the dolls out on display ...

somebody decided that my little  wooden firkin was a good place to keep her chunky threading beads in! :)

That's about it really,  I'm pretty certain that the wedding sampler and the heat of the weather is draining me of all life and desire to stitch ...hahaha ...  but if I give in and start something new I just know it will end up in a basket and never get finished .. :(  I may have to treat myself to a little bit of woollie sewing  just to have a little break  ...haha
Be happy ...eat ice-cream...daily! :)
