Happy Halloween ...

Just a quickie tonight to wish us all well for the Witching Hour :) hahaha
We've had a fun day, out for a little adventure to Pendle Hill to see if we could find some real Witches, a wander around Downham and Roughlee ...Witch Country :) Everyone else in Lancashire seemed to have the same idea, so stopping and getting in and out of the car with the Angels posed a challenge at times. We kind of just drove through the winding villages and found a quiet bleak spot to park that wasn't sooo crowded and popular ... although it was very windy ... ready for a picture overload! :)
A lovely bright Autumn day to drive down pretty Lancashire lanes ... The Forest of Pendle is where we are adventuring today :)
 Beautiful views ...
 Roughlee ... true Witch Country...
Picturesque cottages in Downhan Village ...
Driving down the tiny street of Pendle (well, we think it was Pendle, we were a bit lost at this point and had left the road map at home ... like all good explorer's do! hahaha)  But we did spot someone/something interesting...
The one and only Witch we managed to find ... it was early in the afternoon, probably not any Witches out and about at three in the afternoon! They're probably tucked in some nice tea shop enjoying afternoon cake and tea! :)
I reeeeeaally wanted to go inside, but it was teensy and definitely not conducive to visits from Angels :) Maybe another time...  (The sign kind of gave us hope that we were in Pendle and on the right trail!)
More narrow windy roads, but getting closer...we hope!
Taadaahh... Pendle Hill!! Now to find somewhere a bit closer to park ...that's a BIG hill to climb with two Angels!
A bit of cheating (Drove round the other side and half way up...hehehe) And here we are walking atop Pendle Hill
Well, once again we think it was Pendle Hill ...when we eventually got home and looked at the maps it could quite easily have been Sabden Moor!! Same-ish area ... hahaha  As we obviously count ourselves as being intrepid adventurer's and explorer's we really need to nominate one of us as map guardian or something ...just so we know we are traipsing up the right hill!!! :))
We had a fun drive out and a wind swept walk across some hill or moor ;) I was really pleased with our adventure I've always wanted to visit the area made famous by the 1612 Pendle Witch Trials, a couple of my favourite books are based around Pendle and really fun to read (if you like that kind of thing) "Mist over Pendle" by Robert Neill and  "Daughters of the Witching Hill" by Mary Sharratt are two of my favourites :) I think Hubby and I will have to try another visit together ...with a map to make sure we were in the right spot ..hehe  I might even get to go inside that cute shop ...if we can ever find it again...hahaha

Once home it was down to business, finishing those Pumpkins and enjoying some warm Pumpkin and Butternut Squash soup ... Yummmy!
Just three little Pumpkin heads this year...
But they still look cute sat on top of the Piano :) And no those battery tea lights did not last ...rubbish! Ended up with our usual fat  candle tea-lights that the Angels spend all evening trying to blow out ...hehehe ...well it is more fun! :))

A house full of tired Witch Hunters tonight so we'll say goodnight and hope we're safe from any ghosties and ghouls that might hanging around this spooky night!

Happy Halloooooweeeeeeeeeeeeeeen

Pumpkin Time :) ....

It's almost time to get the knives out! :)  Well,  I'll have the knife ... wouldn't want to let the Angels loose with them ... hehehe ... who knows what or who they might start chopping!! :)
We need to get the knives out for these big bad boys  ...
Are they not MaaaaaHoooooSive!?!  I found them in a garden center, and they were sooooo cheap (cheaper than the Supermarket "2 for £3" !) I couldn't resist buying them, but boy were they ever so heavy, trying to carry them to the car nearly caused me to pull a muscle or two!  I was sooo excited, I drove home reeeaally slowly so as not to have them rolling about the back seat, even though I'd put their seat belts on .. hehehe   I received a few honks whilst transporting my precious cargo, they don't do car signs for driving slowly with "Giant Pumpkins on Board"!!  ...haha   I placed a mini munchkin pumpkin next to them so you could gauge their size, but they are actually sooooooo big that they practically hide my microwave which is on the kitchen counter behind them :)  I'm probably not going to be able to bring myself to carve them for Halloween (maybe later in the month for Pumpkin squash etc..)
So we'll use these normal sized pumpkins to carve...
A bit more manageable :)  My Angels are ready and waiting with their little battery operated tea lights ... that's if the batteries haven't already run out with all the flicking on and off they've been doing :))
I also bought some teensy Munchkin Pumpkins ... just because! These teensies cost more than the Big Guns!!! Last year I did quite well at drying several out, they lasted about 6 months before decomposing, I don't think my drying spot was dry and warm enough :(  ... this year I need to do a bit more research but I will succeed! haha

I've managed to place a few cross stitches too ...
These cute little designs are, "A little Boo" by Lizzie Kate and "A Smidgen of Halloween" by Heart in Hand. I tweaked each slightly, "Boo"  because I didn't have one of the required coloured threads and I just couldn't wait until I could get out and get it :) And with the "Smidgen", the original design had birds ... not  tooo sure why they had a duck and red bird on in the first place... so I swapped them for a couple of the pumpkins from "Boo" ...you can never have enough pumpkins ..hehehe   I enjoyed stitching these sooo much I made two sets, one for me and one for .... someone special! ;))

I couldn't resist this small basket I saw in the Olde Mill last week, and I just had to fill it with more treasures ;) Old white buttons, and  yes, they did end up everywhere once the Angels saw them, all over the floor and down the sides of the sofa ...hahaha. The label on the wooden scoop described it as "a rustic-antique farming scoop" ... no 'made in China' stamp on the back this time, so you never know ... hahaha  And it was only £1.50 so I hardly think it was truly valued as an antique.. maybe they should have just written 'old' ..hehe

The little orange glass pumpkin was certainly a lucky find at a second hand bric-a-brac shop and one I'll treasure, even if it was massed produced in China ... haha  My little glass Pumpkin collection is growing ... the small heart perfume bottle was thrown in as a freebie by the owner ... just because ... maybe she liked my small talk or just thought I was some crazy middle-aged woman overly excited to be buying a glass pumpkin and wanted to get rid of me asap!! .. hahaha :)

I have a few more bits and bobs in my sewing basket that are close to been finished so maybe I'll have something to share next time, for now I need to get cracking with those Pumpkins ...they won't carve themselves and despite having two very eager little Angels I think its something I really need to do without their assistance and preferably before those battery tea lights run out! :)

90 days to go !!!

Today has been a big day in the Kirby household. A very special day for all of us but of great importance to one particular person. Today our wonderful son received this ...
A very special letter ... from...
A very special letter that he has eagerly been awaiting the arrival of..
His call to serve...
Jacob submitted his papers requesting to serve a mission for our Church during the summer, today he received his "acceptance" and was called to serve as a missionary in the Spain Madrid Mission. He will serve his Saviour, Church and the people of Spain for 2 years. He leaves on the 20th January 2015 .... 90 days to go!! I can't really put into words how I am feeling at this very moment, excited, proud, scared, tearful ...hahaha   Jacob has prayerfully and thoughtfully chosen this path in his life, he has chosen to serve, he has chosen to love. My little blue-eyed boy is all grown up and I am so incredibly honoured to be his Mum. We've spent the day sharing his news with family and friends, laughed and giggled as we tried to make everyone guess where he was going. He will have a fantastic cheering team behind him. We will all love and support him during this very special time that he is away from us.
Honestly, I am going to miss him terribly, since Abi left home for University and then did the whole big getting married thing ;)  Jacob has become my rock, he has stepped out from behind his big sister's shadow and shined ... I have two beautiful older children that make me proud every single day :) I'm prepared to sob and cry and weep ...hopefully not for the whole 2 years (but imagine the body-fluid-weight-loss if I did!..hehehe) I may just pretend he hasn't actually left to serve in Spain, I may just try to convince myself he is upstairs in his room playing Fifa-football-whatever! We have lots of planning ahead of us to have him ready to arrive in Madrid in January, its going to be a busy time ... only ... 90 days to go! :)

Oooh My!

... Ooooh I was excited when I got home on Friday from doing a soul destroying food shop (!) and found I had a " you weren't in" to receive  "a package too big to fit thru' the letter box" card from Mr Postman.  Ooooh .... excited little dance :) ... well excited until I turned the card over and read that I'd have to wait 24 hours for it to be available to collect from the Postal Counter!  :(   Pooohy!  Undeterred, on Saturday morning  I arrived bright and breezy at the Postal Counter with fingers itching to receive my package,  only to find a hand written note stuck on the door that said  "due to unforeseen circumstances the Postal Counter has had to close early and apologises for any inconvenience caused" ...Whaaaaaaat ?????  Admittedly they are only open for half a day on a Saturday and had actually only closed 30 minutes earlier than normal ...but I was pretty miffed ....

Soooooooo I had to wait a long weekend (wondering what the package was ...I'm sure I've been very goood lately and not placed any orders ...lol!) until I could go and collect my package on Monday morning :)   Oooooooh My!!! ... as soon as I saw the familiar handwriting and "return" name and address on the back of the package I started to get very excited :)) I definitely broke the speed limit driving back home, it was a struggle not to open it as I was driving ...lol!  I had received a wonderfully surprise gift from my very lovely friend Julia (Bilberry Grove Blog)
Oooooh My!! .... Look what I found in my package ...
Oh My, Oh My, Ooooh My! ... A wonderful surprise Autumn gift :)) Can you see the card at the back ...beautifully crafted by Julia herself, stunning paper! And a lovely crow and sheep needlework kit and Pumpkin Scissors!! I've never had Pumpkin Scissors ...Julia knows me well :) And the 'creme de la creme', a gorgeous little Autumn/Halloween Witch ...she's too cute to be Spooky ;) Isn't she just adorable!
Here's a closer look at her pretty little face...
Love her her swirly cheeks, she even has a touch of blush :) And her pointy little hat is just to die for! :))  In her hand she's holding...
..the cutest little pumpkin in a bucket ... Julia's attention to detail is soooo wonderful, she puts such a lot of time and love into all her creations. I am truly overwhelmed and grateful and amazed at her generosity and friendship.  She is such a lovely Lady :) Ooooh My, Thankyoooooooou soooooo much my lovely friend :) Love you! x x x

Not only have I been busy opening packages and Oooh and Aaahhing over my lovely gifts, I spent time in the kitchen yesterday and baked a loafy-cakey type of thingy! ;) ....
Its an Apple Cinnamon bread/cake loaf, I saw the recipe over on Diane's blog (The Cheshire Quilter) and thought Mmmm that looks yummy, I think I should have a try at making one of those ...
Mmmmm it is yummy, would you like a slice...?
Well, it was yummy and I would offer you a slice but sadly its aaaaaallll gone :) ... well there's nothing that tastes soooo good as cake straight out of the oven ...hehehe The recipe was easy peasy (over on Diane's blog) I might just have to make another one!

I've been rummaging in my stash basket looking for UFO's and such and came across this crazy wool Autumn start that definitely never got finished, I remember starting this piece and looking at it I couldn't think why I hadn't finished it....
and then  ... I caught sight of some rather dodgy looking embroidery stitches down one of the seams...then I remembered, lol! I was overwhelmed and completely demoralised by my inability to reproduce all the fancy stitches I'd seen on other completed pieces that I just gave up .. sad but true ... :( Well not this time ! I decided that I would unpick the dodgy stitches and just cover each seam with a stitch I felt I could cope with .... my infamous crosses!! Boring and totally unfancy and crazy but do-able!  I feel sooooo much better now that each seam is 'cross-stitched' in place, no more fraying edges and it actually kind of feels like me ... I like crosses! :) I may even be adventurous and add a french knot or too ... if and when I feel like it ...hehehe    To add a teensy bit of ummph to my crosses I did use one of my many Valdani variegated threads to add a little colour and I really do like it now! :)  I actually feel excited to added more wool applique to the empty spaces ...who knows I could have it finished soon ....ish!!

Ooooh My! ...all that excitement has tired me out :) In the absence of any Apple Cinnamon cake I'm going to curl up on the sofa for five minutes with a bedtime drink of...
Yummy Hot Chocolate and Marshmallows ... and  one or two biscuits to dunk! :) Mmmm Yummy! Night night :) x x

Just because ....

..it's October the 1st! ;)
Nothing much to say ...but I finally emptied all those boxes ... ready for lots of pictures?? hehehe
First we have Spooky Corner....
 And Spooky Nook...
Angel Mim particularly likes the Spooky corner :) Not sure how safe the Witch in the Pumpkin is going to be ..hehehe
Then we have Pumpkins here, there and everywhere...
Pumpkin Piano fully decked out  ... not sure I could squeeze another Pumpkin up there even if I tried reeeeally hard ...lol But we all know I do try hard where Pumpkins are concerned ...lol!
Pumpkins in the kitchen...
I had to find a use for the glass cloches I'd acquired for the wedding ... I think they actually look quite cute ...
Lots of glass pumpkins ....a bit scary when thinking about sticky Angel fingers ...
... but hopefully a tooo much of a long stretch for Angel arms on the kitchen window sill ...here's hoping they stay safe ...hahaha
Pumpkins on top of the microwave...
 Pumpkins on the kitchen table...
I even decorated the "Pumpkin Pie" sign above the back door...
Possibly Pumpkin overload, even overkill ???  Naaaah  .... hahaha
I did manage to hoover today in case you are wondering, but that kitchen floor hasn't seen a soapy mop all week ... I've been busy! Happy to report our Home is officially Pumpkinised!! :))
