It's the holidays and I've reached that desperate stage ....

...where I reeeeeaally need chocolate!!! I've tried to be good, really I have, but we have to face up to reality: I'm just not good, I'm bad, I'm really really bad ;)  I was sooooo desperate today for chocolate that I locked myself in the kitchen and spoon fed myself straight-from-the-jar Nutella chocolate spread ... and guess what ...I cleaned that jar out!!!  I even hid the condemning evidence of the empty jar at the very bottom of the recycling box so that my evil deed wouldn't be discovered ... all the while 'pretending' to be cleaning up the kitchen ...I did fill the dishwasher in between licking the spoon... Shocking isn't it ... I'm going to have to stay away from the bathroom scales for at least  ....forever!!!

I do feel that I am not totally to blame though, as my chocolate indulgence has not been helped by yet another birthday ... Jacob celebrated his 18th last weekend and naturally that meant cake...
Terrible picture I know... but the only one I managed to get before it was demolished :) Jacob requested a red velvet and chocolate fudge layer cake with chocolate fudge cream in the middle and white chocolate cream cheese on the outside ... Abi and I would have done it the other way around but we were dutiful in following our precise instructions ;) I have to say it was totally mahoooosive and totally scrummy-lucious ... Betty Crocker's got nothing on me! Hehehehe ;))

We had a mini adventure for Jakes birthday, we went over towards Skipton, to my home County of Yorkshire and spent a funtastic time 'playing' at Brimham Rocks ... We all LOVED it! Here's a few photos ...

Brimham Rocks is a natural landscape, shaped over hundreds and thousands, probably millions of years, the dramatic rocky outcrop shapes have been created by erosion from wind, rain, frost, sun .... and Kirby peoples climbing all over them ...hehehe :) My 'adult' children had great fun climbing and exploring, even hubby got in on the clambering act .... I was tooo much of a scaredy cat, I didn't venture up any of the big rocks, just ones that could be safely hopped off without the aid of physical intervention from hubby and son, there is something not quite lady-like and elegant about being man-handled by two muttering male assistant's! And I do try to be a lady :) Whilst we were there someone must have had an accident as we saw an ambulance arrive with flashing lights ... its not a place that comes without risk. I imagine it would be a health and safety officer's nightmare ...hehehe ...but good fun and beautiful scenery. The Angels were having safe fun out with their carers so as to allow the birthday boy free reign to run around! :) It was a quiet sleepy drive home for a birthday tea and a family evening of playing new Wii games ...well it was his birthday! So now we have more adults than children living under our roof ... I'm soooo not old enough to have adult children ... lol!

Not tooo much sewing happening whilst everyone is home, I managed a few small pieces...
Two little freebie Spring stitcheries made into woolie pillow tucks, the smaller of the two is an Easter gift for a friend, but I liked the little rabbit  so much that I've stitched a second one for me in a different colour way :)  The first Spring Bunny is actually supposed to be a sewing pocket and I first spied it on Christines 'Preferably Prim' Blog, I think Christine has the link on her blog :) The second one I found on Pinterest and I think it was from a Hungarian lady's blog and I can't find it again, sorry :(

 Also some 'red' stitching...
This is "Mehitable Wright's Redwork Sampler " by Pineberry Lane ... I'm thinking of finishing  this piece into a pouch type bag ...just ideas floating around my head as of yet :)   But it was a nice relaxing stitch ...just what I needed for a house full of Kirby's :) And that's about as much as I've managed to do. I kind of feel like I need to sit down and really plan and prep some future projects, before I know it the summer holidays will be upon me and I'll need some sewing distractions to keep me away from the Nutella .... I know I could stop buying it ... but really ... it is Nutella!! :)

We have a nice quiet Easter weekend planned, nothing exciting, the whole world and their caravans will be out on the roads, so we'll stay close to home with maybe a visit to terrorise Grandma and Grandad  and a play in the sand dunes at Southport.
Wishing everyone a Happy and Peaceful Easter :)

No Church today ... We're in hiding ... again!

I'm afraid we had another 'Angel' episode at Church last week, a teensy bit embarrassing, and definitely one that requires us to keep a low profile for a week or so :) As is usual at Church a member of the congregation had been invited to give the opening prayer for the start of the service ... my sweet, quiet, little Angels sat beautifully on the pew (admittedly eating some yogurt raisins ..but quiet for Angels ..hehehe)  Well, as the gentleman steps down from the pulpit he trips and stumbles and falls flat on his face pulling the choristers music stand down with him ... Oopsie-daisy!!  Lots of Ooohs, Aahhs and gasps of concern from the congregation  ... you know whats coming don't you??? .. Amidst all the concerned Oooohs and Aaaahs, ringing loud and clear is the unmistakable, giggling and  laughing guffaws of two little Angels, who had not only stood up to get a better view (like you do!) but doubly added to our embarrassment by not only laughing but clapping loudly too!! As the poor gentleman gathered his dignity and returned to his seat my Angels had the people seated around us in giggles too ... laughing at the brazenness of their unabashed laughter ... I was sure the lady sat in front of us was going to need to use the bathroom very soon! It was a  funny moment and one that I'm sure lots of people were secretly sniggering at too, unfortunately our Angels have no social skills and just laugh out loud if something funny happens whether it is appropriate or not :)  After 16 years of Angelic mayhem most people at Church accept their little quirks and unpredictability's, but we yet again managed to raise a few more eyebrows ... I just know they wanted to laugh out loud too! I'm surprised we haven't scared half the congregation away with our growing catalogue of 'Churchy' misadventures :) Hahaha   We did make a rather swift exit at the close of the service but I'm happy to report that the gentleman involved was unharmed, although the chorister did struggle with her broken music stand for the rest of the service ... we may have giggled once or twice at that too ;)  So we're in hiding and snuggled up today on what has turned out to be a cold, wet and dreary Sunday. We're in our PJ's watching some DVD's, doing some drawing and eating homemade cookies ... happy times .. I could get used to being in hiding :)

As I've confessed to Angelic mayhem I should probably confess to a few naughty transactions too :) Lets just say, I feel I'm getting reacquainted with Mr Postman! Just one or two deliveries this week ...
First to arrive was this lovely old wooden candle box, I love the shape, and no-one else wanted it ... Next came the sweet little bluebird with basket! The bird is sooo gorgeous, needle felted and a steal at 99p ... leaves me feeling bad sometimes for the seller/maker, but again no-one else bidded.. I guess I'm just lucky. I had a teensy bit of a fight on my hands for the wee bear (from Angi of Drakestone Primitives) But I managed a last second bid and won! :)   Then in one sweeping 'put a single bid on all the items I like from the same seller and maybe I might win one of them' ... Taadaaahhh...
The only problem with this practise is that sometimes you can end up winning them ALL!! :) Bunnies and Gingers ... my favourites and I like to think I was helping this seller out who was obviously having a clear-out ... she must be laughing all the way to the bank .. lol! Beans on Toast for the rest of the week, maybe with a bit of cheesy pasta thrown in if I'm feeling flush :)

I'd like to say I was good the rest of the week ...Buuuuut.. on Friday, which was the  last day of school and college for the Angels and son, I decided to have a quick run out to the Olde Mill and have a 'courage building' rummage ... Courage is definitely needed for the next 2 weeks of wet weather I expect to have whilst the Angels are going stir crazy at home! :)  Lookie what I found ...
I know, another basket ;) but also two little glass cut salt shakers, a teensy sewing machine oil can, a very pretty tea strainer,  and .... and ... a brand new  (with tags ...lol!) Cath Kidston mug!!!  Jealous? And how many pennies did I spend??  Lets just say I had change out of a £10 note :)  OK so it was only change of 5p, but 5p is 5p!! ... hehehe  I love a good rummage and finding treasure is even better :)

I also have a few sewing finishes, so I've not been spending all my time frittering away hubby's hard earned pennies ;) ...
I stitched this sweet "Country Stitches-with thy needle & thread" design last year but as is my want had put it aside to brood over how I wanted the finished piece to look. Wool had to be involved and I found the perfect piece in my stash, a deep teal piece, It's backed in the wool and then I had originally decided to stitch tongues down onto the front, but as I was going around the pillow securing the tongues at the seam, I quite liked how the tongues flapped ...lol.. they reminded me of feathers, so I left them flappy!  My creative intuition is truly amazing ...flappy tongues ...hahaha

Another Springy finish ...
'Bloom'  By  "Threadwork Primitives" ... Loved this sweet stitch although I did make a bit of a hash at finishing this piece. I accidentally trimmed my stitched linen too close to the design on the bunny side, so to try and balance things up I trimmed closer on the bloom side ... just making a complete hash of everything, at this point I've barely got enough space left for a seam allowance on the sides :(   I decided to stop trimming at this point ... Poor bunny was close to loosing his back legs ...eeaakkk.. To top it all off I didn't quite place the ric-rac in the right place and its ended up barely sticking out of the sewn seam ... I didn't have it in me any more to unpick and re-do so I made-do,  I stuffed it quickly and its now sat happily with the bunnies on the piano :) Phew job done!

One last photo to share, a week late, but as this is my bloggy journal I wanted to remember the beautiful flowers and thoughtful gifts I received last week for Mothers day from my beautiful children and lovely Hubby :)
Gorgeous flowers, that are still blooming beautifully and smell divine,  homemade cards, a book, chocolate, even perfume and fripperies to try and make myself beautiful :) and that sweet little basket ... I'm seeing a gathering of Gingers  ...hehehe, wonder where I'll find some of them? Thank you to my lovely family for making me feel special and loved ... love you all to the moon and back :)
